Off 2 v2.2 — an arrival time you can actually plan around

Off 2 2.2 is about one number: the time you land. The arrival estimate has been rebuilt around a model of the entire flight — the climb, the step climbs an aircraft makes as it burns off weight at cruise, and the descent — and calibrated against routes that were actually flown rather than idealised great circles. Measured across 21 recorded flights, its average live error dropped by 29%, and it no longer lurches every time the groundspeed changes.

The estimate also pays attention to what the aircraft is doing. If it starts down well before the planned top of descent — a shortcut, an early clearance, weather — Off 2 detects the sustained descent and rebuilds the remainder of the flight from where you actually are, instead of clinging to a plan that has been overtaken by events.

Short sectors got a fix that had been hiding in plain sight. On flights under roughly 400 NM the countdown could stall several minutes above zero and then jump to the gate at the last moment; on a 200 NM hop it was still showing over half an hour of flying at touchdown. The profile is now clipped to the real route length, so the time remaining counts all the way down whatever the sector length. Long-haul behaviour is unchanged.

Two more things worth knowing. The arrival time on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island used to creep later whenever the aircraft’s own data went quiet — it now stays anchored to when the value was actually measured. And when you connect to the cabin wifi, Off 2 sets itself up: it fills in your departure and arrival and recognises the aircraft from its registration.

The aircraft marker itself is bigger and clearer, and always draws on top — airport icons and labels no longer hide it just as you are trying to find yourself. This release also fixes a crash on some Air France onboard networks and completes the translations across all 33 languages.
