No-ICE 2.0 — Nearby Share and a redesigned app

A hold-over timer is only useful if everyone on the flight deck is looking at the same one. Until now, two pilots running No-ICE meant two timers started a few seconds apart, two temperature settings, and sometimes two different fluids selected. Version 2.0 fixes that with Nearby Share.

No-ICE Live Activity on the iPhone lock screen

When another iPhone or iPad with No-ICE open comes within Bluetooth range, a new button under the settings gear starts to glow and shows how many devices are nearby. One tap sends the running timer, the weather condition, temperature, fluid and mix, the flaps setting and the table source to all of them. There is no pairing, no Wi-Fi and no server involved, which is what you want on a ramp at 5 a.m. The receiving crew member sees a summary of what is coming and confirms before anything changes, with a clear warning if it would replace a timer they already started. Devices only share when they carry the same FAA and Transport Canada table season, so nobody ends up on last year’s numbers.

The rest of the app has been rebuilt around the same idea: less hunting, more reading. Fluid types are now colour-coded pills in the real dye colours with a count of approved products, the product list is searchable and keeps your three most recent fluids at the top, and the 100/0, 75/25 and 50/50 mixes are chips that show their assured and limit times before you pick one. The weather zone gains temperature steppers and filter chips, the timer card shows Zulu times as pills, and the header now tells you at a glance which source, season and unit you are on.

The lock screen got attention too. The Live Activity header had become unreadable on a real phone once a condition, a temperature, a fluid and the flaps factor all tried to fit on one line. It now uses two rows, so every value stays whole.

As always: No-ICE is an aid, not an authority. The pilot in command remains responsible for determining that the aircraft is clean before takeoff, and the official tables and your operator’s procedures are what govern.
