askM 2.0 — the answer beside its source, and a library you can search
An answer from your manuals is only as good as your ability to check it. Until now, checking a source in askM meant opening it full screen and losing the answer you were checking. Version 2.0 is built around the opposite idea: the answer and its source, side by side.
As soon as the search finishes, the top cited page of your manual opens next to the answer — below it when the iPad is in portrait — with the passage marked in soft green. You can read the manual while the answer is still being written, and step through every source with previous and next. The question field sits at the bottom of the screen and rides on top of the keyboard: the keyboard’s blue key sends, a New line key sits just above it, and Return sends on a hardware keyboard. Every question and answer is now kept in a history on the device, a row of chips limits a question to one manual or several, and the aircraft switch is one tap away on the tail number.
The Library is no longer just a list. Each manual opens on its table of contents, and any section opens in the same reader. A new search covers every section of every manual with the syntax you already know — AND, OR, NOT, “exact phrase”, word*, parentheses, title: and NEAR — with operator keys above the keyboard, the exact number of matching sections, and the matched words marked in the page. “Ask in FCOM” turns a manual into the scope of your next question. On iPhone, where the language model does not fit, the Library now gives you search and reading.
The interface itself is new: true black, thin lines and the B612 typeface drawn for cockpit displays, with colours that each mean one thing — cyan for what you can act on, green for what comes from the manual, magenta for what the AI wrote, amber for caution. Text follows your Dynamic Type size and nothing is smaller than 13 points. Sync, import and indexing keep running when you leave the Library, and any error is shown instead of disappearing.
As always, everything runs on your iPad or Mac — no cloud, no account, no telemetry — and askM remains a personal study aid: always defer to the authoritative published manuals and your operator’s procedures.
